The story behind CrownCouture

Nikki graduated from Glasgow University with a Degree in Human Anatomy. After quickly realising this was not a career avenue she wanted to pursue, she turned back to her creative talent and went back to university to complete a further degree in Design. After graduating, and coming to the realisation that jobs in the Design industry were few and far between in Scotland, Nikki set her sights on the USA.

After months spent in the States trying to find work and an opportunity to emigrate, Nikki was by chance introduced to the world of Hair extensions. Having had a keen interest in hair extensions since the age of 16, Nikki did not refuse the opportunity to put her creative flair to the test, when she was offered the chance to shadow a successful Hair Extension technician.

After returning from the States, Nikki enrolled herself in numerous specialist courses up and down the UK. From this her modest Hair Extension business was born. Over the years Nikki has successfully gathered a lengthy clientele and is now renowned in the hair industry in Scotland. Her success is attributed to her dedication to sourcing the best quality hair for her clients at the lowest price possible. Her persistent refusal to use lower quality hair in a bid to lower her prices has secured her a loyal and returning clientele.

Dedication to sourcing the best quality hair

During her career, sourcing top quality hair has proven to be Nikki’s biggest challenge. In recent years, the price of raw human hair has soared, and in light of this the hair extension industry has seen an influx of substandard hair.

At times, Nikki has been faced with inconsistent hair supplies. In light of this situation, Nikki saw an opportunity to expand the business by offering up a new brand of top quality hair to the Industry.

While Nikki could provide a vast knowledge about good quality hair and had connections within the industry both in the UK and abroad, she realised she needed a business partner to materialise this new venture.

The perfect partnership

What better solution than to introduce her sister, Lorraine, who had obtained a university degree in International Relations and was already a well established PR consultant. She is also qualified in micro-ring and weave hair extensions, eyelash extensions and various nail techniques – now running her own successful business which has grown rapidly over the last couple of years. Combined, their skills sets form a perfect partnership.

In 2012 CrownCouture was established. From the outset, their business model was based on sourcing hair direct from its origins. They believe this to be the only way they can control the quality and consistency of the hair they supply.
